The Blizzard of January 7 - 8, 1996
The Blizzard of 1996 ranks as one of the greatest snowstorms to affect a very wide area of the eastern seaboard, including all of the northeast urban corridor. On Long Island it was the worst snowstorm since the Blizzard of 1978 in terms of snow, wind and disruption of travel.
The following photographs were taken in Smithtown, NY on January 8th and 9th 1996. The weather maps are courtesy of the NOAA Central Library Data Imaging Project.
