Best track for Long Island snowstorms

On Long Island, as in the rest of the northeastern United States, the ideal track of a coastal storm for producing snow across the length of the island usually involves a path which takes the storm near a part of the ocean about 100 miles southeast of Montauk Point marked by the coordinates 40 North and 70 West (latitude and longitude). Meteorologists refer to this location as "the benchmark". It has been observed that most major east coast snowstorms will pass over or near this 40/70 benchmark as they move to the north or northeast.
